Startups and innovation

In 2008 I hosted a startup pitch competition in Nashville TN called “FastPitch”. It was during the final event, where startups were competing for a $10,000 prize and the audience was live/text voting the winner, that my fascination with building scalable software technology began taking root.

The first problem I set out to solve was to make philanthropy accessible to everyone, not just the wealthy. The Affero Project was born out of a simple desire to help college students participate in giving away over $1 million dollars every month to solve some of the worlds greatest humanitarian challenges. We built a web platform and social community that was able to combine micro-donations from thousands of people into one large fund, and the community voted each month to what global issue received the funding (human trafficking, child soldiers, clean water, HIV/AIDS, education, orphans etc).

Moving to Silicon Valley in 2013 created unique opportunities for me to learn various skills in Rapid Prototyping, Lean Startup Methodology and Design Thinking along with being in the most innovative ecosystem in the world for software startups.

In my role as Worship and Arts Pastor at Venture Christian Church I launched and oversaw our Innovation Ministry that hosted monthly events throughout the Bay Area for Christian leaders, entrepreneurs and technologists that drew hundreds of people. We hosted 2 hackathons with hundreds of participants from over 20 churches joining together to prototype and build technologies for ministries throughout our city and the globe.

In 2016 as a side project with a friend, I built and patented a video technology that would help people share their stories faster from their smartphones. Check it out at The Congo platform saves people time by automating video post production and is the easiest way to brand social video content.
